Shipping and Pairing
Jul. 16th, 2009 07:57 pmI've explained my perspectives on this a lot, but here's me doing it again for memory sake.
I know people tend to go "I SHIP IT" a lot. For me, I do the same, but I have... different expectations.
When I ship something, it means I love it but I don't really expect it to happen or work for it to happen. For example: I ship Gin x Kaien, I ship Gin x Findor, I ship Ichigo x Rukia, I ship Yuuto and Deneb, I ship Ashido and Renji, etc etc.
BUT
I don't expect any of them to actually either happen or be played out. If they do, it's not really me being serious, or it could be cracky. If I'm really serious about it, then it becomes a pairing.
When I pair people or characters, I would really like to see it happen. For example, I pair Gin and Hakkai, I pair Ichigo and Orihime, I pair Gin and Kira, I pair Aizen and Gin, I pair Urataros and Momotaros, I pair Kintaros and Urataros, etc etc.
:3 Hope that helps me and others.

Date: 2009-07-17 01:42 am (UTC)OTP means 'One True Pairing', so that would go along with what you say about pairing being more serious. But at the same time, I am 'pairing' two people together, I'm just putting a slash between their names. So if I have a favourite 'pairing' it's not the same as just smooshing two people together. Which comes to 'rarepairs', which is a play on pairing
But then the fan word 'Shippers' refers to people who are dedicated to a single pairing
and sometimes mean to people who aren't, so 'sinking you ship' refers to ruining your most beloved relationship between your characters. But then you get 'crackship' which is again not taking it seriously. So for me the two end up kind of interchangeable, depending on the circumstances. Just my thoughts...

Date: 2009-07-17 02:16 am (UTC)The weird thing is that some of the things I ship, I would never let happen. I ship s0litary with a few of the Gins he's interacted with a lot, but the weird thing is, even if he were single and it was possible, I'd never let it happen. I'm not sure how to explain why, but I guess the idea of him actually being with certain people doesn't work for me, no matter how much I ship it...
Fff, and I suspect nothing I just wrote made any sense. *needs more sleep*
