Okay, I'm pissed.

I just spent an entire day and I finally downloaded the PC version of Sonic Heroes. But, it won't let me play. It says I need the disc in the drive.

What's the point of downloading the game if I still need the actual disc!?

These are what the directions say:

===Sonic Heroes (PC)===

This is the PC version of a *VERY* fun Sonic game

1. Burn or mount the CD images.
3. Install the game.
4. Copy over the game executable with the cracked one, located in this /Crack dir.
5. Play the game.

NOTE: I beleive this still requires the disc to be in the drive.

Enjoy.

1. Burn or mount the CD images.

What does that mean?! Can anyone help me, please? I really don't want to have to find another one and redownload it. Please help. ;_;

1. Burn or mount the CD images. means that you have to make yourself a CD with the images files you downloaded. Not images as in pictures. Images as in..err anyways, .iso files maybe? I dunno I'd have to see the files for myself.
Anyways, you gotta burn yourself a CD.

Okay... *wonders if my CDs can hold all the MBs* ... I'll give it a try. *nod*

I _think_ it means you gotta copy certain files to a CD, so that the game can load stuff from the CD when you're playing. So yeah, I think it means the CD you made (not the official CD) has to remain in the drive while you're playing.

So what does this mean?: " Copy over the game executable with the cracked one, located in this /Crack dir."

Okay, so you've installed the game and you should have an icon somewhere that's an .exe file, in the folder the game is installed to. There should be another .exe installation file inside the 'Crack' folder. Install that one over the top of the already installed one. I think that's what it means.

Actually... back to the game installation... I had to burn each CD file onto two separate CDs. Now how do I install the game??? *confused again* I'm sorry if I'm being a bother. >

The game installations have nothing to do with the CD really. You can install the game from the files you downloaded... they should all be there. You just have to have the image files burned onto a CD which needs to be in the drive while you're playing the game.

But the files are in .nrg and when I go to the Sonic Heroes symbol, it gives me this error message: Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I have this sinking feeling I burned two CDs for nothing. ;-;

Hmm... did you install the cracked one over the original one like it said? What does the error report (where it says "To see what data this(...) ..click here) say?

See, I have no idea what they mean by "cracked one". V.V;; There WAS no cracked one. I only got that error one, the instructions, the two CD files and a txt file that says "Tracked by http://www.Demonoid.com".

><;;

There's no folder or directory called 'Crack', either in the stuff you downloaded, or in the folder created by installation?

There is, but that was the one with the error'd thing and the instructions. If that error'd thing is supposed to be the "cracked one", well... there was no original .exe to be found.

I have a feeling I'd be able to work this out and install it for you if I was there and had access to your comp and those files... 'cause I've done this kinda stuff lots before... but from here I can't really do much... the instructions aren't very in depth for anyone who hasn't done this kind of installation before. Kinda implies a lot of former knowledge. :\

I wish the instructions were better. v.v;;

My 2nd option is probably to just buy the actual game. ^^;

Well, Sonic Heroes for PC is VERY VERY cheap (at least it is where I am ^^;), so you should be able to get hold of it without spending too much :)

I hope so.

I have Sonic Heroes for PC, but I've never actually played it. I don't have the box or sleeve for it, only the CDs... also, I have the UK region CDs. The US release might be different. But tomorrow I'll boot up my copy and see if it's playable with the Japanese voicetrack.

You should use, for instance, Daemon Tools. It's a free program (you can google for it) and it supports all possible disc images I've ever encountered. You download the executable file, run it and install it, then restart your computer, and then in systray you'll see the icon of that program. Right-click it, choose Virtual CD/DVD-Rom -> Device 0 -> Mount image.

Eheh.. I haven't answered your question ^_^

"Burn or mount the CD images."

CD image is 1 or two files which contain the "image" of the CD - all its data and properties. It can have different extensions. .nrg is one of them :)
To burn an image means to write that image to the CD or DVD. This is done, for example, with Nero or Alcohol 120%. It's not just that the image file is copied onto the CD or DVD - the image file is kind of a virtual CD/DVD, so that means that that all contents from that image file will be on CD/DVD.
To mount an image means to open that image with a program - like: to place a virtual CD/DVD disc in a virtual CD/DVD-ROM.

*blinks* I'm still rather confused... I've managed to burn each CD image onto a separate CD (they wouldn't both fit on one), but the program I use to start the installation... well... it errors and needs to close right away.

Frankly, I've tried that too :) I also had a Sonic Heroes image and when I burned it onto the CD, it did just that.

So use Daemon Tools.
